Raylan

Raylan was born with Alobar Holoprosencephaly, also known as HPE. It is a rare brain malformation affecting 1 in 5,000 to 10,000 live births. Current studies indicate that only 3% of all fetuses diagnosed with HPE survive birth and only 1% survive past 6 months. Due to his brain malfunction Raylan also has cerebral palsy with tight muscles and spasticity. He has had surgery to release bilateral hip adductors and Achilles’ tendon. He has also had surgery to repair both hips because they were beginning to dislocate. These are not always permanent solutions. They can once again become dislocated due to his muscle spasticity.
